Exclusive

I feel so rejuvenated and invigorated and all such words.

Scented bubble baths, aromatherapy, essential oils, scalp massage, hair treatment, facial, facial and body scrub and foot massage all equal a totally blissed out and serene me.

   Spa treatments rock.

Especially if you're the only client.

Because you did it all at home.

Now I have to go clean up those bowls of milk, eggs, green tea and cucumber. Yum!

P/S My services will NOT be made available for the general public. Though your tips will be more than welcome.

Pizza Wrap

When you're a student, you're too busy to cook. Or so you tell yourself as an excuse to keep buying kebabs and existing on chocolate biscuits and crisps.
But this is an all-time favourite of mine. It's so easy and quick to make, which is handy when you have unexpected guests.

You need:

  1. tortilla wraps (I loved the herb ones)
  2. roast turkey breasts (or whatever deli meats your prefer)
  3. basic pasta sauce (any tomato-ey sauce will do)
  4. optional: onions, peppers, olives, mushrooms, cheese
The steps:
  1. roll out the wraps
  2. spread the sauce in the middle of the wrap
  3. arrange the meat and other ingredients on top
  4. fold the wrap so that all the ingredients are tucked safely inside
  5. pop into the oven for a while
Voila! And you're done. Serve piping hot.

The Good Intention

Before I went grocery shopping, I always made a list. This is so...

  1. I would remember to buy the things I really needed. [toothpaste, etc.]
  2. To avoid buying the things I didn't need. [biscuits, crisps, etc.]

So, a typical shopping list would generally look like this...

  1. Onions, garlic, shallots
  2. Basmati rice
  3. Frozen peas
  4. Red peppers
  5. Chillies
  6. Oil
  7. Mushrooms
  8. Pasta
  9. Pasta sauce
  10. Canned tuna
  11. Chicken
  12. Salmon
  13. Chips
  14. Milk
  15. Cereal
  16. Butter
  17. Bread
  18. Pears
This is what I usually came home with...

  1. All the things in the 'original' list
  2. Frozen pizza
  3. Walker's Sensations Thai Sweet Chili
  4. Cappucino cake
  5. Chocolate chip cookies
  6. Glamour magazine
  7. Walker's Cheese and Onion
  8. Sushi
  9. Ben and Jerry's Phish Food
  10. Fish cakes
   Low willpower much?
I always said Tesco [in Swansea] was my second home. Where else opens late at night, anyway?

There Are Many Ways To Cut A Cucumber

When I first moved to Swansea, I didn't know how to cook - at all. Serves me right for running out of the house every time my mother wanted to teach me. The result? I spent my first week in a new country eating prawn sandwiches and cereal.

The second week I upgraded to ready-made meals from Tesco. I'm talking mushroom burgers and tuna pasta.] By the end of a month, I was seriously in need of 'real' food. I mean, a proper, full-out, Asian dinner. I wanted rice and chicken curry and spicy vegetables. I was sick of sandwiches and pasta. Just sick, sick, sick.

I made friends with the other Malaysian girls and got the Asian dinner I was in desperate need of. I also got some cooking lessons. Slowly, I learned how to chop onions and garlic, how to stir-fry beef, how to make sure the chicken was thoroughly cooked. They taught me how to clean fish and squid properly [which I'm still not quite sure I can do on my own], how to fix a dish if it's too spicy/sour/salty so that it was yummy again.

My first attempt at cooking a 'proper' meal ended with me slicing my finger while trying to chop a cabbage. Pathetic, I know. My brother had to finish up chopping the cabbage. Despite that little incident, the meal turned out quite nicely. Feeling inspired, I looked up a few more recipes and tried them out.

It took four years of 'training' from many different girls [one girl would teach me how to make incredible bolognaise while another would teach me to make fluffy lemon cakes], but I finally managed to feel confident enough to prepare meals for the others.

Gone is the girl who squished the tomato every time she tried to slice it and in her place is a woman who can chop tomato after tomato without squashing them. A woman who makes a pretty darned delicious lasagna [if I say so myself] and can chop at least 3 onions before being reduced to tears. A woman who handmade her pizzas and lemon shortbread.

But still a lazy woman. [I only baked a lot in my final year because it's amazing what beating eggs and butter together can do for your stress levels. And chopping things up is quite an incredible outlet for your anger. I've been known to bake and cook at way past midnight in those days.]

Now, when I'm stressed, I pop down to one of the many eating spots and eat waffles. Which I'm not supposed to do anymore. I'm supposed to skip rope when I'm stressed now. But I don't know how. I only manage to do one, before getting tangled up in the rope. Although, to be honest, I've only tried about 4 times. *lol*

I'll give it another go later.

Oh, I'm not quite sure why I titled my post under that title. I don't even like cucumbers.

To Chase A Dream

So, the birthday celebrations are done with.

I had too many cupcakes [or fairy cakes] and other desserts.
Gaaahhh... if it had gone on any longer...
As wonderful as it all was...
There is no way I would be able to chase after an ant...
Let alone chase after rainbows...

And it's over those rainbows that my dreams await...
[They're definitely not waiting next door. Trust me, being the energy-conserver [read: lazy, lazy, lazy] that I am, I looked nearby first.]
As much as it pains me...
I have to bid farewell to the sweet loves for now...

Thanks for all the wonderful memories.

We'll see each other again someday.

Somewhere...

Somewhere over the rainbow...

2 Girls In The Kitchen; Or, Fettucine Carbonara Anyone?

Two 19 year old girls, living together on their own for the very first time. Ah, the freedom! They wanted to fully embrace this experience. Feeling like the adults they were not, they decided to venture forth to the bookstore for a recipe book. As both girls adored pasta, they got an Italian cookbook.

Now, these girls were not completely inexperienced. One was a great baker and the other was an expert chef of scrambled eggs. Both wanted to try to make the fettucine carbonara. So, they boiled the pasta then started on the sauce. They started by sauteing the onions, etc.

Being rather enthusiastic about this wonderful 'adventure', they failed to read through the recipe until the end. When they reached the end of the instructions, they were rather horrified that they were supposed to drain the pasta, mix it with the sauce, then take it off the heat and crack a raw egg into it.

Both were disgusted at the idea of the raw egg. Then, one of them said that she had a brilliant idea. The other one, trusted her completely as the two girls have been best friends since they were 12.

So, the brilliant one took the pasta mixture and slid it back into the pot. Then, she turned on the hob and waited a minute for it to heat up. When it was deemed hot enough, she cracked the raw egg into it as instructed.

The other girl, though being a great maker of scrambled eggs did not foresee what happened next. What happens when you crack an egg onto fettucine in a pot on the hob, then stir it around to mix it thoroughly?

Here's what happens. It turns to
scrambled eggs.

Needless to say, heated exclamations ensued.

The conclusion? This masterpiece was chucked into the bin before both girls decided to go out for dinner.

P/S The one who came up with the 'brilliant' idea was
not me.

Two Ladies Who Lunch

"Hello, dah-ling! *kiss, kiss* How abso-lutely fabu-lous of you to take the time from your busy, busy, busy schedule to see little old me!"

"You look simply di-vine! Have you lost weight? You're absolutely glo-wing! Oooh, and I a-dore what you're wearing!"

Meanwhile, the lunch sits cold on the plates in front of them. What a waste.

How To: According To The Wonderful World Of Google

I was missing one of my favourite sandwiches, which was mozzarella, green pesto and sun-dried tomatoes in a toasted pannini [panini?]. Yum. I haven't had one of those in years... definitely not since I came back, anyway. Why? Because they're so DAME EXXY. Mozzarella alone costs a lot, never mind the pesto, tomatoes, etc. Urgh. I used to just run down to Tesco [by run down, I mean I walked to the bus stop and got on a bus to town, where I would get off and walk slowly down to Tesco], and get the ingredients. But now, it's like... ohmygosh, am I really willing to pay RM50++++ for a SANDWICH? *sigh*

*lol* You're probably wondering what do sandwiches have to do with the title of this blog, right? Well, here it is. Since I was missing my sandwich, I decided to google 'how to make sun dried tomatoes.' I did find instructions on how to make my own sun-dried tomatoes, but it takes more than 10 hours! 10-24 hours in an oven, to be exact. Erm... am I supposed to wait by the oven for that long? Yish. Can someone make one for me, pretty please please please?

On that track, I thought it would be fun to google 'how to
make boys like you' [well, I was going to google a lemon and orange cake recipe but I was already depressed about the tomatoes, so I didn't see why I should upset myself further], and actually got a hit. *major lol* How high school!

So, according to wikiHow.com, the first step is to LIKE YOURSELF. Followed by, GET HIS ATTENTION. After you accomplish step 2, you are then to CRACK A JOKE. Step 4 is to DO THINGS TOGETHER and the final step is to BE PATIENT. Very good advice, actually. I've told my friends almost exactly the same things and have also had the same things said to me.

But really, at the end of the day, we're all individuals so I think we should just go with what feels right. [I'm feeling so Carrie Bradshaw-ish right now, minus the Blahniks and Choos.] I think I'm going to google 'how to have fabulous hair every day' next.

P/S Gotta love google!

A jar of cookies...

Sometimes a girl is in the mood for a chocolate chip cookie. Sometimes, a girl craves for one filled with nuts. Occasionally, she would like an oatmeal and raisin cookie. Sometimes, she might go looking for a more exotic one, like a raspberry Viennesse. Sometimes a girl likes it sweet, sometimes she likes it a bit bitter. Sometimes, she likes it full of ingredients. And sometimes, she likes it plain. So, a girl should always keep her cookie jar filled with a variety of cookies to suit all the different sometimes.

A girl bakes some cookies. She decides to experiment a little, and throws in a few extra nuts and some orange flavouring. The cookies come out tasting absolutely delicious. A week later, she decides to bake more cookies. Since her last experiment was successful, she decides to be more adventurous and adds even more ingredients to the mix. The cookies taste horrible and the girl cries for a bit, feeling like a failure. She then gathers herself together, throws out the cookies and makes a promise to herself to try again soon.

A few different cookies live together in a glass jar. They are all good friends. The chocolate chip is the best of friends with the hazelnut. The oatmeal and raisin likes to chat with the chocolate chip about everything and nothing. The dark chocolate is a little shy, but the chocolate chip keeps talking to it and the two are soon sharing secrets. But all these different cookies have different temperaments, and they sometimes get annoyed with each other. Sometimes the chocolate chip refused to talk to the dark chocolate. Sometimes the oatmeal and raisin chose to ignore all the others. Since they all live together, they see each other all the time and this adds to the tension. So, they pop out of the cookie jar occasionally, then come back refreshed and happy. All the cookies in the jar are still good friends.
